Get a Grip!

Freshman Cinema Major, Kyle Godfrey, has picked himself up by his bootstraps; as well as several pounds of recording equipment.
His Modes of Film Production course assigned several projects over the semester, with the last one being a full, final short with all the bells and whistles. And what are the bells and whistles without the tools to capture their essence? Unfortunately, lights aren’t exactly light.
“It’s just the RGB LEDs,” Godfrey clarified. “You don’t see me trying to lug the Nova around with all this. Like, that’d be crazy.”
What’s less crazy, apparently, is lugging these lights along with the Panasonic G7, tripod, boom pole, boom mic, lavalier, and H4n.
“Look, I hit weights. Sometimes. Besides, I only live in Burge. It’s not even that far away. I can carry it all myself.”
When asked whether he considered getting a friend to help him, Godfrey scoffed.
“Please. Most of my friends are cinema guys with equipment of their own. And my roommate is apparently claiming he has ‘a life outside of my projects’ or whatever. He should be grateful I’m giving him this much exposure.”
With no car in sight and forgoing a production cart, Godfrey continued to make the brave trek up the hill and through Iowa’s deeply inconsistent spring weather, until he finally reached the top. Several students reportedly saw him “huffing and puffing,” and overheard a sharp cracking sound in his back.
Kyle Godfrey, one sweat-stained On Iowa shirt and pulled muscle later, was a free man. “I only bent the tripod a little and dropped the camera seven times. It’s my new PR,” Godfrey bragged. “I’m just glad I didn’t waste my energy picking up sandbags. Who even needs those?”
Despite film’s collaborative nature as a medium, Kyle Godfrey used this as an opportunity to establish his strong sense of American individualism, proving himself a strong-willed, uniquely independent, and ‘totally capable’ guy. Only time will tell if he’ll be able to do the same when the time comes to return the equipment.
