How About The University of Iowa ACTUALLY Listens to Real Women?

The University of Iowa Needs to Protect Its Endangered Students Instead of Its Neo-Nazi Students

It seems Iowa YAF, the University of Iowa’s Neo-Nazi student organization, is back at it again for their semesterly crusade against the most endangered group of students at the university: transgender women… For some reason.
This semester they have some clocky nobody with a forehead the size of a brick going on a tirade about how “real” women should go back to being docile servants to their husbands and how transgender women are men despite the fact that she could use a pointer or two from literally any doll on the planet.
Most of the students at the university were made aware of the event from an email sent on Monday, March 31st that had the subject line “Are You Sexist? Do You Claim to Be a Feminist?” along with the opening line reading, “Whether you hate women or love women, we have a speaker and donation drive you won’t want to miss!”
None of us are idiots. We know exactly what YAF is doing. They’re trying to garner attention by saying some off-the-wall shit. Real clever. But in the process, all they’ve done is blatantly state their feelings toward women. They welcome misogynists, and they know that.
Iowa YAF claims to want to “engage in meaningful debate,” but at this point, they’ve dissented into some man-worshipping echo chamber that is only interested in villainizing marginalized groups. But apparently it’s okay! Because they can claim plausible deniability by being open to all viewpoints!
Here’s the thing: misogynists shouldn’t be welcome anywhere. That shouldn’t have to be said. Their opinions are not valid under any circumstance. To even think for a second that fascists, misogynists, and transphobes have anything of value to say, or to think that they might have a point means that you’ve already accepted that you agree with them.
But Iowa YAF doesn’t care. Even if they aren’t allowed to admit it, they know they all think Hitler had a point. They are proud to be on the wrong side of history. They’re so proud that they’ve resorted to playing games with the university by testing its limits of what it will and won’t allow on campus because they know that the university has their back.
The University of Iowa claims to welcome students of all backgrounds, identities, and ideologies, which apparently includes Neo-Nazism. The university also considers hate speech protected under the university’s free speech policy despite the fact that hate speech is considered a reportable offense under its civil rights compliance policy.
Given that the university is allegedly interested in having instances of hate speech reported to them, when do they consider Iowa YAF’s rhetoric to be hate speech? Because Iowa YAF is dehumanizing their fellow transgender students by calling them perverted and is launching multiple hate campaigns against them, all in the charge of apparently sharing their “opinion.”
The University of Iowa has abandoned all efforts to protect its marginalized students by preemptively complying with state and federal policies, as well as eagerly abiding to the will of its fascist board of regents. Instead, the university not only allows but empowers its resident Neo-Nazi student org to host all the hateful events it likes and to say whatever it would like about the students it’s demonizing.
It doesn’t matter if the university allegedly embraces differing opinions. Iowa YAF is not sharing an opinion; they are promoting hate speech, threatening transgender students, and subliminally encouraging people to act upon these prejudices.
So when does the opinion no longer become an opinion? Is it an opinion when Iowa YAF dehumanizes trans women and encourages their fellow Nazis to do the same? Is it opinion when trans women are harassed, followed, and physically and sexually assaulted? Is it an opinion that Iowa YAF wants this behavior to be acceptable and that’s the only reason they host these kinds of events?
The University of Iowa Board of Regents, Barbara Wilson, and any administration associated with the university should be ashamed of themselves for abandoning their transgender students while supporting these hateful, extremist voices.
Transfem students leave their homes feeling endangered because they know their school doesn’t have their back while these hate groups launch their crusades against them solely because of their identity. Meanwhile, Iowa YAF members don’t lose an ounce of sleep each night, and then in the morning they’ll jump on social media and go on about how unsafe they feel at the university because they’re a black woman with conservative views. Kill yourself, Uncle Ruckus. It wouldn’t even begin to make up for the transgender lives that we’ve lost from your rhetoric.
Transgender women and transfem people want nothing from you. You don’t have to accept them, you don’t have to do anything to affirm their gender. They simply want to be recognized as human beings and to stop being beaten, harassed, and humiliated by you. So you’re going to wage a one-sided war against the most marginalized group in our country?
Remember that Iowa YAF feeds off of negative attention. It’s why they do what they do. They know they are in the wrong, but they don’t care as long as they can feel a sense of superiority over others. They enjoy seeing the protests outside their events. They enjoy causing havoc in Iowa City for at least a night a semester. We, as normal people, can stand up for transgender women without giving them the satisfaction.
Transgender women are real people, believe it or not. If you don’t know any, make an effort to meet one. You will learn that we are everywhere in society even if you don’t see us. You will also learn that despite all the adversity we face, we are some of the smartest, most beautiful, most hard-working people throughout history.
(Hey, cishet women. Check your boyfriends’ phones. You’d be surprised at how many of them have Grindr, and how many of them have a secret thing for trans women. Trust me. Take it from a trans woman.)
Male YAF members hate trans women so much because they’re ashamed to admit their attraction to them, and the mere existence of trans women effortlessly crumbles their fragile, self-perceived idea of masculinity. Female YAF members hate trans women so much because they’re jealous that someone can be so much better at femininity than them despite not having a lifetime of experience all while having so many societal factors holding them back.
Anyway. Trans women are women. Trans women are beautiful. They can never disappear because they’ve always been here, even if you didn’t know it. Every YAF member is a Nazi. Don’t give them the time of day. Barbarba Wilson sympathizes with hate. Protect your fellow transgender students.
