Haunted Bookshop Renamed to Bookshop
As Iowa City fully settles into the spooky season, the town has started to transform for Halloweekend (whenever that is). Residents have noticed a number of changes in town, including wicked laughter coming from no discernible place, giant cobwebs everywhere, and the terrifying appearance of a hibachi food truck selling seafood for $40.
Though perhaps spookiest of all is the current status of the beloved Haunted Bookshop. Students looking for a good deal were shocked to see the sign out front had been changed to just “Bookshop.” Fresh flowers had been placed outside, and the atmosphere had transformed into a joyous and definitely-not-haunted feel.
“Even inside it was different,” one student commented. “The light inside was brighter… And the cats also changed? I never even felt like I was being watched. They’re all so disinterested. I miss it.”
The Doily Allergen reached out to The Bookshop for comment, but the positively cheery atmosphere deterred us from even reaching the doorstep.
What possessed the owners to change, we may never know. But out of all the Halloween tricks, this one may just be the most frightening.
