Diva Spotted!: Oliver Weilein

Delaney Waterman

As we know, we’re living through some unprecedented times. First DOGE cuts off Men’s Sports for being “inefficient,” the identity focused LLCs are forced to move to Guantanamo, and then the words Cisgender, Christian, Heterosexual, White, and Male are added to terms included in DEI. Life has never felt more strange, horrifying, and downright dystopian! That was until a Diva appeared in our great town of Iowa City to help secure win for the girls, gays, and Hawks!

Last Tuesday there was a city-wide election for a seat on the Iowa City City Council. Now, this was not just an ordinary election, no, Mama Ru made sure of it. I mean we’re down to the final two queens, of course, we’re going to go out with a bang. The stage was set and the two queens took the stage to lip sync… for… their LYFE!

Ross Nusser went for a grand performance for her song. Making a whole song and dance out of the thing. With a flip in the air and a land in the splits, Ross sure made a scene for sure. Mama Ru and the rest of the judges applauded, impressed by her showmanship, and grandeur, but there was still something missing from the performance. It needed a certain grounding and relatability to really wow the judges and the people of Iowa City.

Then the one and only Diva Queen herself, Oliver Weilein, walked on stage, ready to lip sync her ass off. The music played, Oliver, just performed. No extra pizazz, just a song and a dream, to connect with all the working class queens in Iowa City. The performance she gave was demure, grounded, and full of emotion. You could tell that Oliver wasn’t just lipsyncing that song for herself, but for the people of Iowa City.

After the performance, Oliver gave a small bow, and the crowd erupted. Everyone was on their feet. Mama Ru was even seen shedding a tear. When it came down to it, the choice was clear. Sure, Ross had flips and tricks, but the performance felt surface-level. Who was the queen really performing for? While Oliver, she was the people’s princess, and of course, crowned with the new title of Diva of the year, and new City Council Member for the great city of Iowa City.
