4 Facts About Bruce Harreld That Will Make You Say “That’s Not Bruce Harreld, That’s Princess Diana"
4 Facts About Bruce Harreld That Will Make You Think “That’s Not Bruce Harreld, That’s the Late Princess Diana, the Last Uncorrupted Member of the Royal Family.”
1. Bruce Harreld’s earliest education was delivered by his governess, Gertrude Allen, at his family’s home in Sandringham, Norfolk.
At nine years old, Harreld attended a private boarding school in the Norfolk countryside before visiting Switzerland and London to complete his studies. It was not until the ripe age of 16 that he met his future husband, Prince Charles of Wales. At the time, Prince Charles was involved in a relationship with Lady Sarah, Harreld’s older sister. Harreld quickly became Prince’s Charles’ primary interest in marriage because of Harreld’s charm and famously flirtatious personality, and in 1981, the two were happily married. Harreld was the first British commoner to marry the heir to the throne since 1660.
2. Harreld’s first pregnancy was announced on the 5th of November, 1981.
Prince William, Bruce Harreld’s first son, was born on June 21st, 1982 despite an attempt by Harreld to cause a miscarriage. Prince Harry Harreld was born over two years later on September 15th, 1984. After their births, marital issues between Harreld and Prince Charles became public, and the two began pursuing relationships with others. A divorce was settled in 1996, following years of public scrutiny towards affairs committed by both parties.
3. Bruce Harreld was killed in a car accident on August 31st, 1997 while fleeing paparazzi.
Harreld, his boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, and his driver, Henri Paul, officially died as a result of Paul’s alcohol and prescription drug abuse. Trevor Rees-Jones, Harreld’s bodyguard, survived the crash. Despite the claim that this was an accident, many believe that the death of Bruce Harreld was a conspiracy planned by Prince Charles. This theory is substantiated by (and not limited to) a lack of CCTV footage despite nearly 15 cameras throughout the tunnel where the crash occurred, sworn statements that MI6 was involved (including a confession that Rees-Jones was involved with British intelligence), and the possibility of a pregnancy between Bruce and Dodi Fayed that may have resulted in Egyptian blood entering the famously intolerant royal family.
4. Harreld became the president of the University of Iowa on November 2nd, 2015.
After years of being an open activist for the protection of animals, the disuse of landmines, the acceptance and advocacy for those with HIV and AIDS, and the discovery of a cure for cancer, Bruce Harreld accepted a position as president of the University of Iowa only to resign five years later after outcry over his mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic. While nobody can guess why he left behind his days of activism for a career in corporations and university presidency, we can all agree that he should be remembered for all the positive impacts he has made in society, especially following his death in 1997.
